Bicycle and Pedestrian Access
The Beltway HOT Lanes project will construct new pedestrian and bicycle access on all major Beltway crossings.During construction, Fluor-Lane will maintain access to existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities where possible. In a few areas temporary detours may be necessary to ensure pedestrian safety such as at Wakefield Park in Annandale and Accotink Cross Country Trail.
Fairfax Cross Country Trail
To accommodate the wider Beltway that will open in 2012, the bridge near the Fairfax Cross Country Trail near Little River Turnpike will be demolished and rebuilt. Work is currently underway to construct this replacement bridge.During construction of the new bridge, park access will be maintained and the trail will remain open to the public.
To ensure the safety of trail users, there may be periodic, temporary closures of the trail during the construction period. Advance notice would be provided to trail users.

Minimizing Impacts on Parkland
The project has been designed to minimize impacts on parkland and mitigate impacts as possible, such as replacing park property or creating parks out of staging areas. The project will have a permanent impact on a less than three collective acres of park property across the 14-mile project.
Residents can expect temporary impacts of up to six acres of park property during construction, including the following parks: Wakefield (four and a half of the six acres), Fitzhugh, Accotink, Jefferson, Flag Run Annandale Community and W&OD Railroad.
